CoCA badges & number cubes

York Art Gallery was closed in 2012 for renovation, opening in 2015 with an all new gallery space for their extensive collection of ceramics.

I was approached by Curator Helen Walsh to produce 500 ceramic number cubes for their cabinets and gift shop, a more appropriate material given the displays, than the mass produced plastic cubes that are normally seen.

 

It was an unusual commission but I enjoyed working out an efficient making process, and the batch production aspect of the making was a nice variation to my own practice of one-offs.

I was also commissioned to make a set of 10 CoCA staff badges, which led to a limited edition of 100 badges for the gift shop, all signed and number on the backs.
